Buses are not enough after a certain point because they can't transport large quantities of people. You then have to use metros. But once you grow to 70 or so thousand, the metro alone is not enough and you have to use trains.

I recently reworked my main station with tram and metro stations, and after deleting all the raods and metro tunnels, and rebuilding them in a slight change of position and connecting them all up, the typical "line not connected" icon appeared. Normally, the trams and metros automatially detect the new spot for the stop.
